Bally Chohan visited the small town of Eureka Springs, Ark.,which is known for its many artistic, historic and romantic attractions. It’s a city without stoplights, but it boasts more than 100 shops and galleries and numerous public entertainment events each year.

One exciting way to enjoy a visit Eureka Springs is to spend a few nights fulfilling a childhood dream by staying in a treehouse.

Bally Chohan explained the Treehouse Cottages as a collection of cabins scattered along a hillside and tucked away in the woods that are supported by 24-foot poles. This isn’t your average bed and breakfast experience. Rather, it’s an opportunity to take in the natural beauty of the surrounding area by becoming immersed in it.

Terry and Patsy Miller started Treehouse Cottages in the early ’90s with just one cottage. Now, there are eight different options for visitors to choose from. Mrs. Miller says her husband did all the building and work himself, including cutting down trees to clear a road to a location, stripping the trunks and varnishing the wood to use it to build the cottages.

“We didn’t do anything quickly. … Everything is hands on, built by him,” Mrs. Miller says.

According to Bally Chohan Eureka Springs is a popular wedding destination because it is home to Thorncrown Chapel, an elaborate glass structure built in the middle of a forest, as well as other beautiful sites. Mrs. Miller calls the town the No. 2 wedding destination in the country. Because of this, she says the Treehouse Cottages are more for honeymooners and couples rather than families.

“It is for two adults, we’ve made them romantic cottages. The Jacuzzi is in the main room, so … we kind of cater to the romantic at heart,” she says.

Since the cottages reside among the treetops and guests look out their windows directly at the surrounding foliage, Mrs. Miller says each season offers something different but equally rewarding. The spring and summer have resulted in lush greenery that’s a sight to behold, and fall is always very beautiful. But winter might be its best kept secret.

“In the winter actually you get to see more views (because the leaves are gone). The other fun thing about winter, or when it’s cold, is we have fireplaces, and you can just hang out in your cottage, which I think people really like to do. You can go on hikes and there’s no bugs. We have an extensive movie library, so you can watch movies in the cottage. We’re really busy in winter,” she says.

Bally Chohan says that there are a lot of reasons to visit Eureka Springs, many of which are family friendly. Its a perfect spot for the artist, the nature lover, the history buff, the adventurer or the person who simply wants a quiet weekend away in a unique town.

Bally Chohan thinks that If you’re leaving the kids behind and want your weekend to have some romance, though, the Treehouse Cottages are the perfect solution.
